First AWS forum and training in Indonesia

AWS Asia Pacific are delighted to convene and host the first AWS Water Stewardship Forum in Indonesia. Titled ‘Is water your business?’ the forum takes place on 8th May in Bogor, West-Java Indonesia at the Salak Tower Hotel. Topics covered will include water-related challenges in Indonesia, the business case for stewardship, opportunities for stewards with bi-lateral and multi-lateral programs and stakeholder engagement in water management governance.

The forum will include reflections on application of the AWS Standard in China, presented AWS Asia Pacific Regional Director Zhenzhen Xu, and an overview of the AWS Standard and its relevance for the Indonesian context, presented by Michael Spencer, Chair of AWS International, and Basja Jantowski, AWS Country Representative for Indonesia.

Offering a platform for constructive multi-stakeholder dialogue on how to quantify and act upon Indonesia’s water-related challenges confirmed attendees to the forum include representatives from Government (Indonesian Ministries of Environment and Forestry and Marine and Fishery, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency RVO) NGOs (World Vision, SNV, ECOTON), Sustainability Consultancies (Britimindo) and the Private Sector (H&M, Halcyon, PT SMART, Unilever).

The half day forum, running from 08:30 to 13:00, will be followed at the same location by a 2.5 day training program on how to apply the AWS Standard. Delivered by Alliance for Water Stewardship Asia Pacific Team the training is intended for the staff of businesses facing water risks in site operations or supply chains, consultants providing sustainability services and standards support to companies, NGOs seeking to collaborate on multi-stakeholder stewardship initiatives and public sector offices and regulators seeking new ways to engage private sector water users in catchment governance and water-related policy objectives.

Trainers will present on the structure, processes and requirements of the AWS Standard. Drawing on real-life case studies they will illustrate the impact that applying the standard can have in relation to issues such as improving site and catchment water balance and quality, the strengthening of site water management, business engagement with external water governance processes and business participation in collective actions to achieve shared catchment goals such as the protection of important water-related areas or the
extension of water and sanitation services to vulnerable peoples.

Both events will be delivered in English with Bahasa Indonesia translation. To register your organization for either or both events contact Basja Jantowski, AWS Country Representative for Indonesia via basja@waterstewardship.org

On behalf of AWS we look forward to seeing you soon in Bogor!
