AWS held an hour-long webinar examining water stewardship through the lens of the agricultural landscape in Spain on 2 March 2023.
While Spain is the largest producer of fresh fruits and vegetables in the European Union, many farms across the country are facing high water risk. Complex challenges ranging from water supply to overall ecosystem health require collective action. Through a robust water stewardship strategy, agricultural producers in Spain can work towards more resilient catchments.
To help advance water stewardship activities, AWS launched a report, Water stewardship: Understanding agricultural landscapes in Spain. This comprehensive, easy-to-use resource can help Spanish agricultural organisations apply the AWS Standard in their local contexts.
During the webinar, we were joined by representatives from WRAP, EDEKA, WWF and Good Stuff International to look at how this new resource can be used on the ground and to discuss the next steps in activating water stewardship in Spain.
