About the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)
The Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) (a4ws.org) is a global membership-based network of businesses, civil society organisations and the public sector dedicated to promoting the responsible use of freshwater. AWS Members contribute to the sustainability of shared water resources through the adoption and promotion of a universal framework for the sustainable use of water – the International Water Stewardship Standard or AWS Standard – that drives, recognises and rewards good water stewardship.
The AWS Standard provides a globally applicable framework for major water users to understand their water use and impacts, and to work collaboratively and transparently for sustainable water management within a catchment context. The AWS System includes independent third-party certification.
The AWS System is overseen by a multi-stakeholder governance structure and fuelled by information from members, partners and a growing number of local water stewardship networks. Knowledge and learning are fundamental to both our ambitions for growth and the integrity of the system. By connecting organisations at the forefront of collaboration on water, AWS facilitates the exchange of knowledge to advance the uptake of water stewardship worldwide.
AWS is a growing organisation, and our highly motivated team is dispersed across several countries.
Scope of work and responsibilities
Reporting to the Sector Lead, the Project Coordinator is tasked with working across teams to provide essential organisation and administrative support, focussed on three main areas of work: member retention and recruitment activities, programmatic activities and communications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work with the Sector Team to plan and deliver member retention and activations activities such as the Water Stewardship Communities of Practice quarterly meetings. This will involve supporting the development of agendas, arranging meetings and managing attendance, and providing updates to members following each meeting.
- Support the preparation and management of AWS events. The Coordinator will assist in key aspects of event preparation such as developing and maintaining the event registration platform, liaising with vendors, and serving as a point of contact for participants. The Coordinator is likely to be called upon to assist at events with activities such as checking-in participants, liaising with vendors and other support as needed.
- Work with the Sector and Programmes Teams to develop and implement AWS collective action activities in key locations around the world. This means assisting with initial setup activities (such as preparation of partnership agreements, contracts and budgets) and ongoing coordination to support the smooth running of accelerators (such as helping to organise workshops, partner updates and liaising with the Communications Team).
- Provide administrative support to the Communications Team. With the guidance of the Communications team, the Coordinator will maintain the AWS Events Calendar, update the membership page of the website with logos and URLs, coordinate annual update of member logos and assist with post-event content and assist on large projects as needed.
- Lead on development of reporting for funders and partners, as well as for internal use. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for working across the team (and with external partners) to undertake reporting and coordination across funded projects. This also includes supporting internal reporting and data analysis, feeding into quarterly reporting across teams.
- Support the Chief Strategy Officer on AWS strategy projects. This may require research, meeting coordination, notetaking, writing, data analysis, etc at the request of the Chief Strategy Officer.
The AWS Global Strategy proposes three Outcomes from our work. The Sector Team strongly contributes to each of these, helping to build:
- An informed, energised and committed community
- Scaled adoption of the AWS Standard in value chain hubs
- Knowledge and learning from action that drives new commitments
